Creative Canvas is a nationwide organization that promotes artists of all aspects, by increasing their local footprint as well as providing national exposure. This tour makes stops in major cities across the United States on a monthly basis and I had the pleasure of attending their Atlanta stop. Creative Canvas showcases creatives in front of a live audience of peers with similar tastes.
Walking into this event I had absolutely no idea what to expect or what the artists would be displaying, and I have to admit I was absolutely blown away. This even was hosted by Angelo Diaz, and opened with a performance by Nigel Lloyd.

This view (pictured above) of artist Tiffany Davis in her element was simply breath taking to me. As a fellow creative, I value the beauty of the process; taking a concept and translating it into something an audience can understand.
This art gallery gave me the feeling of being inside the minds of the artists. Being able to see things first hand from the perspective of others allows you to experience their passion and intent. This is something that many verbal and written conversations often lack.
I know most artists view what they do as something they love without the realization that simultaneously they are also entrepreneurs. Hearing the interview of the featured artists where they discussed how they were working to build their platform as an artist, were extremely similar to the conversations I've shared with entrepreneurs and with my own personal journey as an entrepreneur.
Business/Marketing Tips for Artists:
1. Find your pricing sweet spot.
Pricing is always a challenge for any company. You want to profit, you don't want to sell yourself short, but you also don't want to charge too much for your target audience. Once you determine your pricing, create a price-list for you to reference before selling or taking on a new project.
2. Be transaction ready.
Are you ready to accept the most common methods of payment? Make sure you have change for cash transactions and a card reader for debit/credit card transactions
3. Engage with your audience.
As an introvert this is a challenge for me, but think about your audience from their perspective. Are you more inclined to buy from a company where their employees are attentive, telling you the story behind their products, or one where employees act as if you are not there?
Overall, I commend Create Canvas for offering a platform for artists to further build their following and client base; even more so for offering the opportunity for the public to not only support their loved ones, but to be exposed to new art, hidden emotion, and a greater appreciation for art.
